TRY: Visiting Victoria’s secluded swim spots

Anyone who’s ever ventured to Victoria’s busiest beaches in the height of summer knows it’s not for the faint of heart. Finding a patch of sand for your towel is a rare feat, kiosk lines stretch for what feels like miles and securing a carpark spot can feel like a victory (we’re looking at you, Sorrento). To save you from the crowds and chaos, we’ve curated a list of our favourite peaceful and secluded swimming spots – ideal for those who crave a more tranquil day by the water.

Bushrangers Bay, Cape Schank
Follow the 2.7km bush track from the Cape Schank Lighthouse Carpark and you’ll uncover a series of sparkling tidal rock pools nestled among dramatic volcanic formations. The crystal-clear waters are slightly warmer than the ocean, making them far more inviting for a refreshing dip.

Ladies Bath Falls, Mount Buffalo National Park
At Ladies Bath Falls, water cascades into an impossibly clear pool of water, where smooth pebbles rest peacefully at the bottom. Surrounded by moss-covered rocks and lush ferns, this hidden oasis offers the ideal respite to cool off after a strenuous hike through the High Country.

Blue Pool, Briagolong
A watering hole and gorge just half an hour north of Sale, Blue Pool is a local favourite that has somehow managed to stay off the radar. Here, ancient rock formations tower above a deep mystical lake, complete with a tried and true giant rope swing. Don’t forget to BYO lilo!

Addiscot Beach, Point Addis
If you venture further up the coast past the hustle and bustle of the world-renowned Bells Beach, you’ll find Addiscot Beach — a quiet, sheltered bay framed by towering sandstone cliffs. Protected by the outer reef, the bay is calm and wave-free, making it perfect for a leisurely summer dip.

Refuge Cove, Wilson’s Promontory
For true adventurers, a 30km hike from Sealer’s Cove leads to a stunning, secluded beach on the eastern side of Wilsons Promontory — one of Australia’s most picturesque destinations. Spend the night camping under the stars and listening to the waves roll in for the ultimate escape.

Dalgetty Road Beach, Beaumaris
Nice and close to home, Dalgetty Road Beach is a peaceful little inlet just down the coast from its busier neighbour, Half Moon Bay. Here, golden sands stretch toward the calm and clear waters, offering a serene escape away from the crowds.
