REMEMBER: The beauty of your own backyard.

One thing the pandemic has made us appreciate is the beauty of our own backyard. When it comes to holidays, we tend to jet off to Queensland, Japan, Bali or Europe without checking what’s happening in good ol’ VIC first. It’s a shame because, upon closer look, we actually live in one of the most exquisite places on earth. Who knew! While there’s still a big old question mark over interstate travel, we’re embracing all things staycation.

By the ocean – Plenty Caravan, Apollo Bay
If you’re tickled pink by the idea of waking up to ocean views and Otway vistas, look no further than Plenty Caravan, Apollo Bay. Adorned in shades of pastel pink, the bespoke caravan has all the bits and bobs needed for a practical getaway – from a kitchenette to air con – complete with an outdoor antique bathtub overlooking the coastline. Nestled among the hills yet only 15 minutes from Apollo Bay shops, enjoy the ideal balance of seclusion and centrality.

In the bush – Eco Retreat, Callignee
Architecturally-designed, energy-efficient and totally off the grid, this sustainable masterpiece will make for an unforgettable weekend away. Built of recycled materials, the striking multi-level interior evokes a feeling of total sanctuary, encompassed by the lush bushland of Callignee, a secluded pocket of Gippsland. A 19 metre magnesium lap pool can be found at ground floor, perfect for those extra hot summer days.

Amongst wineries – The Dairy at Logbox, Red Hill
Tucked away in Red Hill South – a stone’s throw from breathtaking vineyards and Point Leo Beach – The Dairy at Logbox is as unique a destination as they come. A shabby-chic facade gives way to a luxe studio interior boasting ceiling beams, white timber joinery and stylish furnishings. Spend your day sipping world-class wines or exploring beachside trails before retiring to a quiet, rustic retreat.

On the farm – Alkira Eco-Glamping Retreat, Kallista
If you’d prefer a short drive, Alkira Eco Retreat is hidden away on an idyllic farm in the Dandenong Ranges, just 50 minutes from the CBD. The accomodation is surrounded by pristine vineyards and lush forests, allowing you to completely unwind among nature. Sleeping two, the cosy villa combines rustic brown walls, timber accents, soft linens and indoor plants, creating an atmosphere of total tranquility. For food, pre-order a picnic basket from Mrs Shmick and devour it on the fold out timber bar, overlooking horses and alpacas.
