Creativity is one thing, MOCAA Africa is another. Heatherwick Studios, a UK-based firm renowned for some turning out some of the world’s most impressive architectural structures of late, designed MOCAA, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, and we urge you to put it on the list. The entire structure is made from Cape Town’s old grain silo (seriously).
The museum collects, preserves, researches, and exhibits 21st century art from Africa and its diaspora. Nine floors house over 100 galleries, with permanent and of course temporary exhibitions, alongside centres for art education, performance practice, photography, moving image, as well as the Costume Institute. MOCAA is truly a landmark icon for South Africa.
